Khorpa Danda Trek

Khorpa trek is newly opened trekking route in the Annapurna region. It is less-crowded trekking trail in Annapurna region where you will be delighted with an opportunity to unwind in pristine nature and get the exceptional view of mountain peaks. Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri (7,061m), Bharha Shikhar (7,647m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,434m), Machhapuchhre (fishtail, 6,997m, Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna IV (7,525m) and Lamjung Himal (6,983m) are the common mountain peaks seen during the trek (subject to clear weather).

Khorpa Danda Trek lies in beautiful Annapurna Region and was recognized as teahouse trek only about 3 years ago. Even though the trek is only for 9 days, it is just unique and adventurous nonetheless. Walking through quite peaceful villages and dense forests, catching glimpses of entire Annapurna mountain range is quite relaxing. As the Khorpa Danda Trek itself is of moderate difficulty, anyone interested in a healthy body can attempt it. A beautifully combined lifestyle of various ethnic groups like Magar, Gurung, Chhetri, and Dalit is unlike anything you see in other places. Though trip includes teahouses, homestay is also offered to interested trekker which is an excellent opportunity to observe Nepali culture and cuisine closely.

The fascinating culture of the region is another main reason to trek Khorpa in recent days; especially in Janaipurnima. Local here drink the blood of yak on the festive day of Janaipurnima. It falls on full moon day of August. People here believe that drinking the blood of Yak is the cure for many diseases including cancer. Yak graze freely on open meadows; they graze many herbal plants including Yarshagumba. Yarshagumba is regarded as the master herbal which cures many diseases. People don’t kill the yak but inject on some part of yak’s body to draw blood for serving a purpose.

Highest altitude we reach during Khorpa Danda Trek is 4727meters at Khayer Lake. Highlights of this trip include picturesque villages, sunrise, and sunset from Poon Hill, a panoramic view of Annapurna Ranges, Gurung Museum, dense forests. Each day of the trip can be expected to be filled with intense scenic beauty varying from mountains to forests. Nepal being culturally and naturally rich as it is, Khorpa Danda Trek helps to showcase beautiful hidden trails allowing you to enjoy your perfect escape from the busy schedule.
